Rolf Hausser, 90, creator of the Lilli doll was interviewed by Anne Barrowclough. He wants people to know how badly he feels betrayed.

The world’s favourite doll was originally called Lilli, is 45 rather than 40, and not American but German. Anne Barrowclough talks to her little-known - and very bitter - creator. This text was initially published in MILLERS’ Magazine on-line, August 3, 1999

Based on an erotic cartoon character in post-war Germany, the Bild Lilli doll became an instant cult object whose image was to influence several generations of fashion dolls.

Her severe look and her high-heel shoes thinly disguised her as a fashion doll but what lay underneath was a social phenomena. A revolution for women was taking place during the era, and Bild Lilli was its doll-size anticipation with its irresistible expression of emancipation.

Presented to collectors in 1992, the Petite Fille Modèle doll is so far the only little girl doll designed by BillyBoy*. She was inspired by her elder and historic sister Bleuette, but nevertheless the PFM is an original creation, not a copy or reproduction of Bleuette, a point which was always clear. Her wardrobe is in the modern style of early 20th century fashions, entirely hand-made in BillyBoy*'s workshop in France.

Now that Bleuette is encountering a phenomenal success amongst collectors in the USA, we thought it would be interesting to present the charming PFM by BillyBoy*, an original and playful doll for all ages.
