Why Tanagra The Fondation Tanagra is a non-profit cultural organisation. It was founded by BillyBoy* and Jean Pierre Lestrade/ Lala in 1997 and is based in Switzerland. Why Tanagra? Tanagra was a village located in ancient Greece and a center of production of tiny clay figures, mostly in the 4th century BC. Refined , rare and precious, these figures have evoked through centuries the eternal female beauty; the name "Tanagra" has become a synonym of beauty and grace. The name was chosen to evoke the specificities of the Fondation, notably the socio-cultural history of high fashion and its influence on fashion dolls.
The Fondation TANAGRA has chosen the Mdvanii doll, a contemprary art form as its official effigy. The Fondation Tanagra will most certainly have its own Swiss-based museum in a close future, a long term project and goal of its founders. In the meantime, this site has been proposing a selection of various articles on the subjects of fashion foll and high fashion history , but also unique antique doll's houses from The BillyBoy* & Lala collection as well as works by contemprary artists.
